My newest solo exhibit, "Layers," is a modern commentary on layers of meaning, told in layers of paint.  New this year is a series of square sky paintings on cradled wood panels, framed in a fluted gold leaf frame.

"Love and Memories," oil on gessoed wood, 24x24"

As a young child, I remember lying flat on my back in the summer grass and gazing up at the expanse of the sky.  From this perspective, there was a visceral comprehension of how small I was relative to the panorama stretching out above me, giving me a sense of oneness with, and openness to, a universal presence greater than me.  Filled with wonder and awe at the broad expanse of the heavens stretching overhead, I was transported to another realm.  The vastness and diversity of the skies above us continues to fascinate me.

My sky paintings are focused on cloud patterns and formations and the concurrent emotions I feel, which are often reflections of my inner state.  There is an ephemeral beauty in the ever-changing skies, which can create a meditative contemplation.

"Dance of the Clouds," oil on gessoed wood, 8x8"

Painting is a way of record-keeping, an escape from the redundant circular patterns of thinking in my head, to the layers of meaning that are revealed upon reflection in space and time.  My painting process, regardless of the subject matter, is an exploration of layered imagery and emotional content.
