"Peony (1)" is the beginning of a series of small floral paintings. For many years, while raising my three daughters, I painted mostly flower paintings. They were large and expressive pieces, mainly for my own enjoyment and personal expression. Eventually, my flower paintings took a back seat to learning landscapes, but with the popularity of small affordable artwork, I decided to revisit my old genre.  "Peony (1)" is a blossom emerging from a dark background and may be purchased here.

There is something very sad and beautiful about this at the same time. I like the fact that the flower is emerging from the dark background. Maybe, I am reading more into it than what was intended, but that is how if feels to me. Very nice.

Thank you for your comments, Diane. My emotions do come into my work, but I like to hear what others feel when they view it. I think that is the beauty and mystery of painting - how our work speaks to others on a personal level. The ambiguity of meaning is part of what I consider to be a successful element of painting.

Lovely peony. Can't wait to see more florals.
